For fear of inconclusive election, INEC deploys 18,511 personnel to Edo

 

Apparently to avoid repeat of inconclusive election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is set to deploy 18,511 personnel for Edo governorship election.

The commission stated this in its daily bulletin on Thursday. It said the commission will comprise one Returning Officer, 18 Local Government Area Collation Officers, 192 Registration Area Collation Officers and 263 Supervisory Presiding Officers.

The rest are 2,627 Presiding Officers, 12,036 Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs) I, II and III; 2,530 Assistant Presiding Officers and 728 Reserve APOs.

For the deployment list, the commission listed 19 LGA Supervisors, with one “Headquarters Reserve’’ and 97 Registration Area Cluster Supervisors as well one headquarters reserve.

Edo state has 18 local government areas with 1,925,105 registered voters, 192 Registration Areas, 2, 627 Polling Units and 4, 011 Voting Points.

The governorship election will hold on September 10 and there have been calls both from different political parties and civil society organisations against a repeat of inconclusive election in Edo, an event that has been common with the present INEC.

Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC boss, had only recently said he cannot promise that there will not be inconclusive elections in 2019, a statement that has been a source of worry going into Edo and other elections preceding 2019.
