Rohr begins Nigeria reign with victory as Super Eagles beat Tanzania

New Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, began his stint in charge with a win, as Nigeria beat Tanzania 1-0 in their last 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, unleashed a cracking effort late in the second half, to seal victory for the hosts.

Victor Moses and Odion Ighalo had come close in the first half, but could not find the breakthrough for Nigeria.

The game was a dead rubber, as none of the two teams were still in contention to qualify for next year’s competition in Gabon.

Nigeria finished second in Group G behind the Pharoahs of Egypt, who clinched the sole ticket.
