Sea Robbers Takeover Bayelsa Community Waterways, Residents Live In Fear
Residents in the Koluama Community in the Southern Ijaw area of Bayelsa State have called for an intensification of security in the area due to frequent attacks by sea pirates.

Amongst those affected is former militant leader, Reuben Wilson, also known as General Pastor Reuben, who has raised concern over the incessant cases of sea pirates along the Southern Ijaw communities, particularly affecting the Koluama clan.
General Reuben, who is an indigene of the Koluama clan, said though the communities have petitioned the security agencies over the matter, the continuous attacks have crippled fishing activities, transportation along the waterways, and prevented community heads from attending meetings over their domain.
According to Reuben, the attacks have become unbearable and may result in bloody confrontations between angry youth of affected communities and the sea pirate gangs.
General Pastor Reuben, in a statement issued yesterday in Yenagoa, lamented the hardship and pain being inflicted on the people over the presence armed sea pirates.
According to Reuben, "Five boat engines are stolen daily by these pirates and they have stopped fishermen from work out of fear of being attacked and killed."
He added "traditional rulers have abandoned their roles of deliberating over the affairs of their people for fear be robbed, kidnapped, or killed along the waterways by the sea pirates."
He called on the security agencies to wade into the matter before the situation get out hand and prevent a possible bloody confrontation between the sea pirates and angry people of affected communities.
