The police officers were stopped from arresting the monarch
Police
officers from Abuja who came to arrest a monarch in Cross River were
met with opposition as crowds stopped them from taking the traditional
ruler away.
Some policemen from the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS)
from the Force Headquarters Abuja were stopped by a large crowd of
villagers who prevented them from arresting a paramount ruler in Cross
River state.
The incident occured on Tuesday morning as the police officers
tried to arrest the Obol Lopon of Ugep, Obol Ofem Ubana following the
recent gang war in Ugep community.
According to CrossRiverWatch, it was reported that the Obol Ofem
was arrested and was later released when the FSARS unit discovered that
they could not contain or maneuver through the large crowd that had
gathered to protest the attempted arrest of the monarch.
The youths had said that it has never been heard in the history of
Ugep that the Obol Lopon has been arrested and therefore he will not go
to Abuja with them.
