Police arrests UNICAL solar batteries’ thief
The police in Cross River State have arrested one Stanley Osim alleged to have vandalized and stolen four Solar batteries of the University of Calabar in various roads in the University.
The suspect, according to an eyewitness resided in one of the boy’s quarters in the campus. He was arrested on Thursday through intelligent information. Police sources accused the suspect of being responsible for the theft of the four batteries.
The suspect has been arraigned before a Magistrate and the case has been fixed for August 14 for hearing. The Police have vowed not to relent until the perpetrators of the criminal acts are brought to book.
The Vice Chancellor of the University has last week in a statement issued on his behalf by the Chairman of the University Board of Media and Community Relations, Dr. Joseph Ekpang frowned at the theft and vandalization of 54 solar-powered street lights in the varsity.

Commenting on the arrest and prosecution, the chairman of the University Board of Media and Community Relations, Dr Joseph Ekpang said, “This is a major breakthrough and it is hoped that this case will help the security agents to track the remaining 50 stolen batteries.”
It would be recalled that DAILY POST had exclusively published the stolen of flower plants and the vandalization of 54 solar power streets light in the University of Calabar.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University, Prof. Zana Akpagu had said that the thieves were not only stealing flowering plants in the University, but also vandalized over 54 solar-powered street lights.
It would be recalled that the VC recently set up a Park and Garden committee with the mandate of giving the University a face-lift through planting of flowers and trees.
