The Nigerian police division in Otukpo area of Benue was on Monday invaded by masquerades and villagers over alleged arrest of 11 heads of masquerades (Ad’alekwus) from Otukpo-Icho, a suburb of Otukpo local government area of the state.
The elders were reportedly dragged to the police station by the family of one late Mr. Adida for insisting on burying a deceased, one Mr. Adida in a traditional way as opposed to family’s plan to bury him the Christian way.
A source told DAILY POST that the late Mr. Adida was a full member of a traditional group called “Odumu” right from his heydays.
It was gathered that the deceased tried denouncing his membership but it was rejected by the group before he died.

Drama, however, ensued after the man died as the group and his family church member locked horns over who would bury the deceased.
The family subsequently dragged members of the Odumu group to police station for obstructing their brother’s funeral rites.
Angered by the family’s decision to bury the deceased in a Christian way, some youths loaded themselves in a truck with masquerades and invaded the station, threatening to beat up anybody who detains their members.
The case was consequently transferred back to the village to be resolved by traditional rulers in the village.
