Obi Mikel has reacted to the Super Eagles' victory over Argentina on
Tuesday night as the former Chelsea star admitted that the Eagles
struggled in the first half of the game.
While speaking after the historic 4-2 demolition of Argentina in
Russia on Tuesday, captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, John Obi
Mikel has reacted to their new system which led to the incredible win in
the international friendly match.
Mikel Obi who played all minutes in the game where the Super Eagles
had to come back from two goals down to beat the South Americans,
admitted that the Super Eagles struggled in the first half, but played a
new system in the second half for them to win the match.
“We played a new system today we never played before so we
struggled to find our feet in the first half but at the break, the coach
spoke to us and we corrected our mistakes which helped us to fight
back. Our team is still work in progress,” Mikel said after the match.
Head coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr also stated clearly that
he was happy that his wards came back from two goals down to beat
Argentina.
"It’s good victory for us but it doesn’t mean we’ve become
favorites to win the World Cup. We stay humble & realize we have
more work to do. We prepared well for this game because playing
Argentina is big for us, maybe it is different for them.
“I am happy we came back from 2 goals down to win 4-2. It shows
we have great team spirit and determination when you keep fighting
after going two goals down against a great team like Argentina.”
