Personal Finance

In today's fast-paced world, managing personal finances is more crucial than ever. Whether you're aiming to build wealth, save for a major life goal, or simply achieve financial stability, a solid understanding of personal finance is the key to success. This blog post will guide you through essential financial principles and provide practical tips to help you take control of your financial future.

  1. Budgeting Basics:

The foundation of any successful financial plan is a well-thought-out budget. Start by tracking your income, fixed expenses, and variable expenses. Use budgeting apps or tools to create a visual representation of your financial landscape.

  2. Emergency Fund:

Establishing an emergency fund is crucial for unforeseen expenses like medical emergencies or sudden job loss. Aim to save at least three to six months' worth of living expenses in a separate savings account.

  3. Debt Management:

Tackling high-interest debt should be a priority. Create a debt repayment plan and consider consolidating loans to lower interest rates. Visualize your progress and celebrate small victories along the way.

  4. Investing for the Future:

Explore investment options based on your financial goals and risk tolerance. Diversify your portfolio with a mix of stocks, bonds, and other assets. Regularly review and adjust your investment strategy as needed.

  5. Retirement Planning:

Start planning for retirement early to take advantage of compounding interest. Contribute to employer-sponsored retirement accounts like 401(k)s and explore individual retirement accounts (IRAs) for additional savings.

  6. Insurance Protection:

Safeguard your financial future with appropriate insurance coverage. This includes health insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance. Ensure that your coverage aligns with your current and future needs.

  7. Smart Spending Habits:

Cultivate good spending habits by distinguishing between needs and wants. Look for ways to cut unnecessary expenses and redirect those funds towards your financial goals.

  8. Continuous Learning:

Stay informed about financial trends and opportunities. Read books, attend workshops, and follow reputable financial blogs to expand your knowledge and make informed decisions.

Comedian AY

Ayodeji Richard Makun, the Nigerian comedian and actor, who is popularly known as AY, has apologized to late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as MohBad.

AY apologised to MOhbad for not paying attention to him while he was alive.

AY, via his Instagram account on Friday, said: "Prophetic dreams are higher messages, sent by higher messengers, for higher purposes. The world now understands that with all that I witnessed today on the streets...

“We are sorry for not paying so much attention to both the messages and the messenger called IMOLE. But we are very happy to see how bright your light still shines even in death. REST WELL #iammohbad."

Six Reasons Why Naira Marley Maybe free from Mohbad Death

6 Reasons Why Naira Marley Maybe free from Mohbad Death

If issues are treated with the sense of urgency and importance they get in the court of public opinion compared to the conventional court of law, Nigeria might stand a chance of being a better place. The court of public opinion is unorganized and loud. It entails vigilantism and it follows trends. With due respect, opinions here hardly count on legal grounds. Whereas, the court of law which is supposed to uphold the rule of law in situations of distress, has become more vulnerable than a person battling extreme learning disability and autism.

I have followed the untimely demise of singer Mohbad since the drama ensued, and from the beginning, one needs no binoculars to see how it ends, except if the person is a foreigner. The principal actors are Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley, Samson Erinfolami Balogun popularly known as Sam Larry, and on the periphery, Zinoleesky (Oniyide Azeez).

Below are the reasons why Naira Marley and Sam Larry might go scot-free despite the massive allegations against them:

(1) Nigerian factor:

Nigeria is not the easiest place to pursue justice against an influential figure. This is because certain individuals are stronger than the institutions in the state. This is supposed to be vice versa. Influential people are more connected than you can imagine, and they just find their way around their travails. If Senator Ike Ekweremadu (serving a jail term in the UK for organ trafficking) had erred on Nigerian soil, do you think he would have been convicted? The answer is no. Doesn't it beggar belief that Naira Marley - a proud ambassador of marijuana and a rumoured drug peddler is the face of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA? Anything is possible as long as Nigeria is concerned.

(2) Politics:

An industry that is booming in Nigeria, especially in Lagos State is the industry of thuggery and hooliganism.  This is due to the nature of our politics. Our politics is extremely combative in nature. Our democracy is a decoy to give a resemblance of legitimacy to handpicked public office holders. It is a system where the violent and the crooked win the game by force, without adhering to the rules of the game. So the politicians hire thugs during the general elections and political crises. This accounts for why popular thugs are doing better than doctors, engineers, lawyers, IT personnel, entrepreneurs, and other top professionals. With Sam Larry being reportedly linked with some ruling elites, I see them secretly bailing him out when the current thick smoke subsides.

(3) No Evidence:

Like the singer Burna Boy said; "without evidence, you go explain tire"

Naira Marley and Sam Larry (prime suspect) have bullied, tortured, and victimized Mohbad courtesy of some of the videos available on social media. But on the contrary,  none of the videos prove they directly murdered him. People are just driven by emotions which is understandable. One of the major catalysts of the #JusticeForMohbad movement - GistLover Blog claims that the deceased friend named PrimeBoy hit him with a charm during a fight. According to the blogger, PrimeBoy was a turncoat who was a loyalist of Naira Marley and Sam Larry.  PrimeBoy has since laid the accusations to rest with a timely video statement. Can you tender black magic in court as evidence? This seems like a story for the gods. The nurse who reportedly injected Mohbad and his friends who took him to the hospital are all closer to jail than the prime suspects.

(4) Cultural factor:

Rumours have it that Naira Marley is peddling drugs. Others say he is a cultist. These allegations constitute the average lifestyle of a typical Nigerian musician. Rapper Olamide in one of his songs called his colleagues 'Science Students', mixing hard/bad substances together and we danced to the song. Nobody paused to think about the reality of the lyrics of the song. Other music artistes also rap about gang violence and drugs. Drugs, alcoholism, promiscuity, internet fraud, gangsterism, and all manners of civil disobedience are the cultural attributes of the Nigerian music industry.  The only difference right now is that the monster we created is asking for a human head for dinner.

(5) Our judiciary:

If this case gets to court as expected, I suspect it might drag longer than the arms deal trial of the former NSA, Sambo Dasuki over alleged $2 billion fraud. Is anybody still talking about it? Justice is always delayed in Nigeria, as long as you have the resources to get the best lawyers who exploit the lacunas in the Nigerian judicial system. Over time, people will move on to other issues. Sam Larry might enter into a plea bargain with investigators for bullying and harassment. He could eventually get a slap on the wrist. Naira Marley can also wiggle out of this in some way unscathed. Bribery and corruption can also play a key role in the outcome of this criminal case. If politicians can procure court injunctions, other wealthy people can also replicate that.

(6) The court of public opinion is misleading:

Due to the problems of social conformity, bandwagoning, and groupthink, people tend to abandon their sense of reasoning to follow the popular trend. This is done for the sake of acceptance. Most times, the popular road has proven to be the wrong direction. Remember when a section of the country believed former President Muhammadu Buhari was dead, and replaced by one body-double named Jubril Al Sudani from Sudan? They also believed Buhari's school leaving certificate didn't exist. On the entertainment end, many also believed rapper Ruggedman slept with Toni Payne (the ex-wife of singer 9ice). I can go on and on. These were just mere trends that didn't have the legs to stand the test of time. When a concrete investigative structure is set, all these hearsays and rumours evaporate.

In conclusion, I am not a fan of Naira Marley and I will never be. I apologize if my reader feels I have sounded like one or probably my article is insensitive. I am just trying to play the devil's advocate here and wake people up to smell the coffee. By law, Naira Marley and Sam Larry are deemed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

I believe Naira Marley has seen the worst already. He is scalded for the rest of his life. I assume his musical career is already over. He was a setting sun before now anyway. This ordeal might also blacklist his record label and other business engagements he might also have in the entertainment industry. I think it might require genuine spiritual intervention for Naira Marley to reclaim his spot in the music industry again. He has always 'enjoyed' the Black Sheep identity, but this time around, he will have to 'endure' it. The decision of the court will not alter the public perception of him because Nigerians never had faith in the judiciary.

Family Member Explains How Pastor Taiwo Odukoya Died In The US

Details surrounding the death of founder of Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju Lagos Pastor Taiwo Odukoya have emerged from family sources.

Recall that the popular pastor died in the United States of America (USA) on Monday at 67.

According to TheNation, the respected preacher had health issues mainly triggered by personal tragedies.

A source close to the family said: ”He really didn’t get over the losses he suffered. He tried to be strong but there is a limit to what a man can take.”

Pastor Taiwo, as he is fondly called, lost his charismatic first wife, Bimbo, in a Sosoliso plane crash in 2005. She was 45.

The death left the Pastor who shared a well-known synergy with the wife, who he met at the University of Ibadan as an undergraduate shattered.

“Pastor was more devastated by what people said after Pastor Bimbo died than what actually happened. Many people said nasty things that saddened his heart. He was touched by the savagery of the comments.

“Well, he had no choice and decided to move on despite the heart break. It took a lot of talking for him to decide to remarry,” the source shared.

On November 9, 2021 death came knocking on his door again. This time, it took his second wife, Pastor Nomthi, a South African, away. Nomthi, who died of cancer, was 47 and had two children for the preacher.

“If Pastor Bimbo’s death was shattering, Pastor Nomthi’s demise was a technical knock-out. It knocked Pastor down and out. He was inconsolable. He was very bothered about what people would say.

“It left him totally lifeless. There was nothing we could tell him. It took something deep out of him and some of us became afraid for him.”

When he lost his twin sister few weeks after his wife’s death, sources said it was more or less the last straw.

For someone who has lost two important women in his life, it was tough to take the death of someone with whom he shared his womb and childhood.

“It was a personal, humbling tragedy. He would just gaze and seemed to become completely disinterested in things around him. It was unusual to become totally lost in conversations and issues.

“I believe something died in him at that point. He tried to put up a strong face for the church but he was human. He was died within and it was only a matter of time. That he lived for almost two years after showed the strength of his character.,” The family source explained.

The health challenges, it was learnt, started showing up, knocking him off and necessitating overseas medical trips from which he never recovered.

Man 'Goes Blind' During His Attempt To Break Guinness Record

A Nigerian man has temporarily gone blind while attempting to break a Guinness World Record.

The man identified as Tembu Ebere partially went blind while attempting to cry for seven days to set a record in the Guinness World Records, according to Sahara Reporters.

This is as the craze to achieve feats of endurance sweeps across the country after a chef, Hilda Baci, in May officially broke the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.

Ebere, who confirmed his health issues to BBC said that he forced himself to cry for seven days for the record but along the line, he went temporarily blind.

Ebere, who has been attempting to cry non-stop for seven days said that he experienced headaches, puffy eyes and a swollen face and went partially blind for 45 minutes amid his efforts.

He told BBC, “I had to re-strategise and reduce my wailing,” adding that he was determined to cry for one week as he planned despite the difficulties he encountered.

Guinness World Records has seen a surge in record-breaking attempts from Nigeria in recent months after Baci's cooking marathon which attracted public attention.

Unable to contain the crazed surge, Guinness World Records recently warned saying, "Please enough of the record-a-thons," after someone reportedly broached the idea of not one, but two separate attempts - an "idea-a-thon" and a "puff-puff-a-thon".

Single Lady Searching For Love Offers $5,000 Commission to Who Finds Her a Husband

Single Lady Searching For Love Offers $5,000 Commission to Who Finds Her a Husband

A single woman has promised a hefty sum for anyone that would help her find a good husband.

The woman has been identified as Eve Tilley-Coulson, 35, a corporate litigation attorney, from Los Angeles.

She told The Post that “A while ago, I told my friends I’d pay them $5,000 if they introduce me to my husband,” “And I figured, why not open the offer up to TikTok?”

So in June, the blond virally shared her matchmaking call-to-action online, promising her more than 100,000 TikTok followers: “If you introduce me to my husband, and I marry him, I will give you $5,000.”

The eye-popping proposal raked in more than 556,000 views — and between 20 to 25 digital introductions to potential life partners via rookie marriage brokers, Tilley-Couslon told The Post.

“I haven’t gone on any dates yet,” said Tilley-Couslon, adding that most of her intermediaries have been women who spotted her eye-popping proposal on social media. “But people are definitely motivated to help.”

“I’ve been single for about five years now, meeting people in person and on the apps,” she explained. “But since COVID, there’s been a weird shift in dating culture — guys don’t approach you in person, and most of the men on apps aren’t swiping to seriously date.

“So I feel like paying $5,000 for a husband who’s vouched for, meets my needs and is ready for a real relationship is totally worth it,” said Tilley-Coulson with a laugh.

Her post on TikTok read, “@ebtilley #stitch with @Dear Media I have never been more serious. I’m tired of being told, “its so easy.” Set me up 🤑🤍 #setup #firstdate #friendship #meetcute #bff #bet”

Her online proposition, though monetarily attractive, isn’t entirely uncommon.

Under the ever-trending TikTok hashtag #HelpMeFindHim, with more than 321.5 million views, lovesick romantics share their digital pleas for social media’s help in landing an ideal partner.

However, most folks using the popular stamp as a virtual “S.O.S.” are looking to be reconnecting with a hunk they’d previously encountered in passing — and almost none of them are sweetening the deal by dangling a sizable sack of cash like Tilley-Coulson.

But there are strict rules of play in her matchmaking game.

“You get [the $5,000] as soon as the marriage certificate is signed,” said Tilley-Coulson in a subsequent TikTok clip featuring her non-nonsense friend Lara Bahr.

“He has to be eligible,” added Bahr, a lawyer.

“That means he cannot be already married,” she continued. “This can’t be his second wife.”

Tilley-Coulson then outlined her non-negotiables of her hottie-in-holy matrimony, insisting worthy candidates must fall within the age range of 27 to 40, stand 5-foot-11 or taller, boast a witty “British” sense of humor and have strong affinities for sports, animals, and kids.

Haters online bashed her height minimum, doubting she’d find the love of her life in the skimpy 14.5% of U.S. men who measure over 6 feet tall, per recent research.

But the marriage-minded honey told The Post she’s not backing down from her tall order — sorry, short kings!

“The only real physical requirement that I have is that he must be tall because I’m tall,” said Tilley-Coulson, who stands about 5-foot-10. “I’ve dated men who are insecure about my height, asking me not to wear heels, and that didn’t make me feel good.”

When it comes to looks, she’s less picky.

However, on TikTok, the beau-seeking belle did point to Hollywood heartthrobs such as “Gossip Girl” star Chuck Bass, 32, and Oscars winner Matthew McConaughey, 53, as prime examples of faces she’d love to date.

Political views, religious beliefs, and ethnicity aren’t deal breakers for Tilley-Coulson — who joked she’s so ready for love that she’ll “date a rock with charisma.”

Whether the guy has a college degree or a car is, too, neither here nor there for the singleton.

And she’s open to being in a long-distance relationship if Mr Right is game.

She’s just ready to settle down with her forever person.

“My perfect guy is the perfect wedding date: He can take a shot with my brother, dance with my grandma, he knows how to work the room but also comes back to check on me,” said Tilley-Coulson. “He’s a well-rounded chameleon.”

And although she said a handful of virtual trolls have called her “desperate” for offering up a $5,000 husband commission, Tilley-Coulson is confident in her strategy.

“I stand by it,” she told The Post. “Hey, if you help me meet him, the money is yours.”

Mark Zuckerberg Trains With UFC Champions, Adesanya, Alexander

American business mandate and Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, was spotted on Tuesday, training with UFC champions, Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski.

The photo which was shared online adds fuel to rumours of a potential cage match with Twitter boss, Elon Musk.

These speculations started from friendly online exchanges several weeks ago, but the recent launch of Zuckerberg’s Twitter-like app, Threads, has increased tension between the two tech leaders.

Launched on July 5, 2023, Threads has quickly gathered over 100 million users globally.

However, Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, criticized the app, suggesting it achieved success by “cheating.”

“Competition is fine, cheating is not,” Musk tweeted on July 7, 2023, in response to a post about a potential lawsuit against Meta by Twitter.

As the online debate over Threads intensified, the playful idea of a cage fight between the two CEOs resurfaced.

The recent photos of both Zuckerberg and Musk training with MMA fighters only added to the anticipation.

Zuckerberg, acknowledging his training session with UFC champions Adesanya and Volkanovski, posted, “It’s an honour to train with you guys!”

In response, Adesanya tweeted, “No Fugazi with Mark. This is Serious Business,” while Volkanovski added, “@zuck you’re a beast! Always great to catch up.”

Meanwhile, Musk seems to be preparing for the hypothetical showdown as well. He was spotted training with UFC legend Georges St-Pierre on July 3, 2023.

Brazilian Influencer Dies After Doing Backside Surgery

By With No comments:

Backside Surgery

An influencer and reporter from Brazil has died following a surgery to increase her backside.

Lygia Fazio, 40 died after complications from a butt lift surgery performed by 'a man who claimed to be a nurse.'

DailyMail reported that before her death, Fazio was hospitalized at the beginning of May after she had silicone and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) injected into her buttocks.

She was in intensive care for four weeks before her condition worsened and is believed to have suffered a stroke. The mother of two young boys, aged 2 and 11, died May 31, her family said in a statement.

In an interview with a local outlet several years ago, she acknowledged she was only looking to make minor changes to her butt before her boyfriend convinced her to get something 'much bigger.'

Fazio had nearly one million followers on her Instagram account, which she had previously used to warn women about the dangers of having surgery to alter your appearance.

Her brother George Oliveira posted online after her death: 'Guys, unfortunately our warrior passed away. Thanks again for all the support.'

In an interview with Revista Quem on Tuesday Oliveira blamed Fazio's death on the constant pressures she faced after she started working for television networks Rede TV and Record TV.

'She got into a very toxic, perfection-seeking environment,' he said. 'She tried to adapt to this aesthetic standard and started having several procedures (due to her) work.

'The internet is a world apart; it seems like a parallel universe. She had a nose job and went on to perform other procedures, but she didn't talk to us. She wouldn't speak to anyone.'

Oliveira said the family noticed the gradual changes Fazio made to her butt, which she attributed to a fitness regimen.

Oliveira said her initial lift was performed by a doctor, who refused to apply additional silicone the second time she approached him.

He said his sister had told him she turned to the services of man who identified himself as a nurse and injected her at a friend's home.
Fazio, who had over one million followers on Instagram, first reported problems three years ago.

In 2021, she spent more than 100 days hospitalized as doctors removed silicone that had spread throughout her body.

'We could see that she wasn't well. But she wasn't a negative person, she always saw the good side of everything,' Oliveira said. 'Even when the complications came because of the silicone and the PMMA, she saw that she could get something out of it, she realized that it could be a mission.'

Fazio underwent seven surgeries after her first butt lift.

'She was taking a lot of corticosteroids,' Oliveira said. 'She had hypercalcemia and overloaded her kidneys, she had to undergo dialysis.'

The grieving sibling said Fazio's condition 'was very complex.'

She was diagnosed with fungal endocarditis and doctors suggested the bacteria may have spread to 'her brain and caused the stroke.'

'I'm turning 30 and my sister has been with me since I was born, she was one of my best friends. If I die at the age of 90, I will have lived a short time with her,' Oliveira said. 'I wanted to grow old with her. This pressure for aesthetics left a void that we will never fill.'

No arrest had been made as of Wednesday.

Prison Inmates Crown Seun Kuti ‘General Overseer’

Inmates Crown Seun Kuti ‘General Overseer’ As He Leads Prayer Sessions

The embattled Nigerian singer, Seun Kuti, who is also the son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is being remanded at the State Criminal, Investigations and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos.

He is being remanded on the orders of Yaba Chief Magistrate Court for assaulting a police officer.

According to a report by Vanguard, Seun has been crowned the ‘General Overseer’ of his cell by the inmates. A copy of the Holy Bible was said to have been handed over to him as an instrument of his office. His appointment as the GO was however not without some drama after the inmates initially rejected him.

In a video that went viral, Seun was accused of slapping a police officer on the Third Mainland bridge on May 13 which prompted an order for his arrest by the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba. Seun however submitted himself to the police accompanied by his lawyers on Monday and was arraigned at a Sabo, Yaba Chief Magistrate Court on Tuesday which ordered his remand.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that after preliminary interrogations were concluded, Seun was then taken to the cell to join other suspected criminals. It was learned that his first shocker was the hoarse, deep baritone voice of the leader of the inmates who directed him to keep standing. A few minutes later, a crisis erupted inside the cell as the inmates were said to have rejected him.

The inmates were banging on their metal protective door, asking that Seun should be taken out of the cell.

Sources said as the uproar by the inmates escalated, Seun started negotiating for peace to reign. That was when he noticed that the commotion his presence caused and his rejection by the inmates attracted little or no attention from the police guards.

At that stage, he reportedly promised to dole out N25,000 to them and he was directed to produce it without delay. He had to beg for the phone to call his wife who quickly brought the money which was handed over to their leader. The inmates subsequently accepted him (Seun) and provided a space for him to sit down.

Vanguard also gathered that Seun was so infuriated by the ugly development that played out that he refused to eat the food provided for him including the food brought by his wife. The hunger strike continued for almost a day and a half until he finally started eating.

The climax of the drama was that the inmates later crowned him the General Overseer of the cell and a bible was handed over to him. That means that he is presently leading the inmates in prayer sessions whenever the need arises after which they would all chorus: GO, GO.

When Vanguard visited the Department at Panti around 2:30 pm, yesterday, Seun was seen clutching the Bible tightly with his left hand while climbing the stairs leading to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge, Waheed Ayilara. He was later led down the stairs, back into the cell.

Sources said those who have visited the embattled singer included his elder brother, Femi, and other family members as well as his lawyers and some friends.

Seun not paraded — Police

The Police have described as untrue insinuation by Seun’s defence counsel that he (Seun) was paraded, urging him to desist from engaging in media trial and allow the judicial process to take its full course.

The clarification, according to the Police, became imperative following what was described as a misinterpretation of facts in the matter at hand, being circulated in social media.

A statement by the Head of Chambers for the Nigeria Police, DCP Simon Lough, SAN, said: “Seun Kuti was not paraded as erroneously alleged by his lawyers. It was his photograph, fingerprints, name and address that were taken as provided for in the law. It has become imperative to correct some misrepresentations being circulated on social media solely to garner sympathy from the public and to divert attention from the fact issue. First of all, there is no law that prohibits the use of handcuffs to restrain a suspect, especially a suspect that has shown a tendency to violence. Secondly, section 10(4) of Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State allows the taking of photographs of suspects arrested for identification and record purpose”.

Meanwhile, the Chief Magistrate Court, Sabo, Yaba has granted an application for an extension of Seun Kuti’s remand for additional four days to allow further investigation into the case. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Olatubosun, extended Kuti’s remand until May 22 following an application moved by Mr Simon Lough, SAN, who led a police legal team to the court.
