Fulani Herdsmen Kill 20 In Series Of Weekend Attacks In Godogodo, Kaduna

At least 20 people were killed when Fulani herdsmen laid siege on and attacked Godogodo, a settlement in Jema’a local government area of Kaduna State.

The co-ordinated attacks took place between Saturday and Sunday (October 15 – 16, 2016).

According to survivors, the Fulani herdsmen militia surrounding the community and launched attacks from the cordon.

Efforts to reach security agencies for help by community leaders didn’t yield any result as the “government is simply not interested in saving these Christian communities in the North”, a community leader revealed to The Trent.

“The Fulani fighters are brought in from outside [the community] and were wearing police and military uniforms,” an eyewitness, John Jacobs told our reporter.

“The area has suffered about 3 attacks by the Fulani militia in a row and the state government has continued to down played it as if complicit in the whole arrangement,” he continued.

The attackers burned down an entire enclave, leading to tensions in Kafanchan, the capital of Jema’a local government council which has a majority Christian population and minority Muslim population.

“There is a potential spillover to Kafanchan which is just about 15 kilometers from Godogodo,” he warned.

The interim management committee, IMC chairman, of Jema’a LGA, Dr. Humble Katuka, on Sunday, October 16, 2016 announced a 24-hour curfew in the local government area which is in Southern Kaduna.
