#ResumeorResign: Charly Boy, Adeyanju Threaten Court Actions Against Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari might be dragged to court by the protesters as his stay in London for a medical vacation exceeds 100 days. 

Conveners of the Coalition #ResumeOrResign movements under the groups, Our Mumu Don Do movement and Concerned Nigerians, Charles Oputa, a.k.a  Charly Boy and Deji Adeyanju respectively have threatened court actions against President Muhammadu Buhari if he fails to resume or resign as Nigeria’s president if incapacitated by ill health within 21 days from August 16, 2017. 

 

The coalition has equally moved their protests to Lagos state and also continued that in London while calling off their protest in Abuja over what they termed continued attacks on their members by the Nigerian police and alleged government’s sponsored hoodlums. 

 

The groups equally said they would hold a vigil in front of the Abuja House in London where President Muhammadu Buhari is currently recuperating from an illness yet to be made known to Nigerians. Buhari has been in London since May 7 on a follow-up medical treatment.

 

The coalition, in a statement signed by both Charly Boy and Adeyanju and made available to newsmen, said the decision became imperative following the spate of attacks on its members. 

 

The statement also said that the decision is to help the coalition restrategise on ways it would adopt to continue the protests without putting their members in harm’s way. 

 

The groups have been calling for the resumption in office or resignation of President Buhari if incapable of leading the country as its president. The groups have recently been attacked by suspected hoodlums, a development that saw Charly Boy’s car damaged. 

 

The groups had earlier been shot at with tear gas by the police during one of their rallies in Abuja. Charly Boy had slumped in that incident while some of the group’s members sustained injuries leading to their being hospitalised. But the groups have maintained their protests even after the presidency called them bluff and gave reasons it said rendered the group’s demands null and void. 

 

According to the statement, “Following the spate of violent attacks by officers of the Nigerian Police Force and then by paid hoodlums on our #ResumeOrResign daily sit-outs and peaceful processions in various parts of Abuja, it has become necessary to announce a suspension of our daily activities in the city.

 

“This temporary suspension is to enable us restrategise on ways to make our processions less open to such violent attacks and to better ensure the safety of all our members and other participants at our sit-outs and peaceful processions in future. 

 

“This is also to make known our good intention and unreserved commitment to promote peace and unity in our beloved country. We believe this decision will help in dousing the unnecessary ethnic tension being stoked by the cabal holding Nigeria to a ransom. 

 

“Whereas our daily sit-out will be suspended temporarily in Abuja, Sit-Out will continue to hold at the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, Lagos, between 0900hrs – 1000hrs daily; New York (Front of the Nigerian consulate, 828 Second Avenue); and vigil will also be held in front of the Abuja House in London on Friday August 18th, 2017 by 1700hrs. 

 

“Members of the general public and members of the media are also invited to any of these events to provide support in whatever capacity they may deem fit.

 

 “Finally, we hereby demand that President Buhari returns to the country and resume duty as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria within 21 days from today, or that he resigns completely from office to enable him return to Daura to take care of his ill health.

 

 “Should the president be unable to comply with any of the aforementioned demands within 21 days, we will approach a court seeking an order of mandamus to compel the Federal Executive Council to set up a committee in line with section 144 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), to appraise the health of President Buhari and subsequently determine whether or not he can continue to discharge his presidential functions as enshrined in the constitution.”
