My life is under threat —PDP BoT chairman

CHAIRMAN, Board of Trustees, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Walid Jibrin, has alleged  that anonymous callers had been calling his line, threatening his life.

He made this known in a statement issued to Sunday Tribune in Kaduna, on Saturday which he personally signed.
The statement read: “Shortly after I was discharged from hospital, where I had been on admission for almost two weeks  as a result of stroke, I thought the threat to my life was over, until I started receiving calls from some strange numbers on my phone.
“Since the first call where the caller identified himself as a journalist and  demanded a huge amount of money from me, I  have constantly been bombarded with series of such calls, all threatening my life.
“These were later followed by a number of anonymous text messages and calls, claiming they were from very reputable editors of media houses in the country, asking me to send them millions of naira to stop a purported damaging  report on me from being published.”
He said he had since disregarded the content of the alleged story, as they were “clearly spurious, laughable and lacking in substance but the frequency of the calls  has become quite irritating and like anything annoying, has vitiated the suitable atmosphere I need for my full recovery.”
He appealed to those who had been issuing such threats to desist from the act.
“Journalism is a noble profession, which should be practised with decency, decorum and high sense of responsibility.
“The evidence of such threats and calls  have been fully recorded and submitted to security agencies, while the editors, whose names were being used, have been fully informed about what is going on.
“Those behind these threats should be aware that what they are doing is criminal and their case would be treated as such when they are eventually nabbed by the investigating authorities,” he stated.
He said: “As a former journalist who served at the Nigeria Broadcasting Service, NBS, in Lagos under Christopher Kolade and later transferred to Maiduguri, I am  appealing to denegrating the name of our reputable editors, who are working round the clock, to ensure the dissemination of credible information to the society, by not dragging their names in the attempt to dupe unsuspecting and law-abiding members of the society.” he said.
