NYC Finance Director dies from shark attack while on vacation in Costa Rica (Photos)

A New York finance director was fatally mauled by a shark while scuba diving off the coast of Costa Rica. Rohina Bhandari, 49, a senior director at WL Ross & Co. LL, in Manhattan, was on vacation when she was attacked by a tiger shark off of remote Isla del Coco on Thursday.

According to Costa Rica’s Environment Ministry, she was among a group of 18 people diving off Cocos Island National Park, a World Heritage Site that’s known for its abundant species of sharks.
The authorities said Rohina was hauled out of the water after sustaining severe bites to her legs. Park guards and medical personnel vacationing on the island launched a frantic effort to treat her severe wounds but it wasn't enough to save her life.
“Upon reaching the surface, the attack on the tourist was already serious,” the ministry said.

NY Daily also reported that a dive master also suffered a shark bite but the injuries were not life-threatening. However, a boater and other divers tried to drive the worrisome creature away but it was also too late.
According to Bhandari LinkedIn page, she had been working at the investment firm founded by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross since 2013.
