#ChibokGirls: Ezekwesili Says FG is Insensitive, Urges Buhari to Fulfill Rescue Promise

By

Former education minister, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili has accused the federal government under the leadership of both former President Goodluck Jonathan and President Muhammadu Buhari of being insensitive to the pains of parents of over 200 girls kidnapped by Boko Haram exactly 2 years ago.
Parents of the girls abducted from the school dormitory at Chibok Secondary School in Borno have been supported by the BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) advocacy group to continue to demand the rescue of the girls, and have occasionally met with President Buhari but Mrs Ezekwesili believes more should have been done.
The former minister who has been a major voice within the BBOG group, in an interview with The Nation newspaper, stated that the group and parents of the abducted girls have not had any interaction with the government since a meeting in January that ended on a controversial note.
“I think that the government of Nigeria has successively and consistently treated citizens in a very undignifying manner. The way that our Chibok community and parents have been treated both under the previous dispensation and the current one, it just leaves much to be commended at all,” Ezekwesili said.
Ezekwesili maintained that she and other members of the group were disappointed with the president’s response at the January meeting when asked about efforts being made to rescue the girls. President Buhari was said to have replied that there was no credible intelligence to effect a rescue, a statement Ezekwesili described as grossly unsatisfactory.
She said, “The government owes much more than that and the President needs to keep his promise to these parents and community of Chibok and to our movement that he will not consider Nigeria to have won the war against terrorism without bringing back our Chibok girls and other abducted citizens of the country.”
