President Muhammadu Buhari at his departure for the United Kingdom for medical checkup at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja yesterday.

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived London yesterday to see an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist for a persistent ear infection.
Speaking with newsmen at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja shortly before his departure for a 10-day vacation, the president said there was nothing unusual in falling ill, adding that any human being could fall ill. 

He said he had formally transmitted a letter to the National Assembly informing the legislators of his 10-day vacation beginning yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has urged Nigerians to show goodwill and patriotism by praying for Buhari.
He made the call while addressing journalists at the Abuja airport yesterday.
He maintained that Buhari was not ill, saying it would be a misnomer to say he was ill because he performed his duties and functions as president till the very last minute he was travelling.
“Rather than go into frenzy, I will urge Nigerians to just show goodwill and patriotism. They should pray for him (Buhari) and wish him well. Things about health, life and death are in the hands of God. But I believe that all is well with our president, and God will take care of him and take care of the country,” he said.
Adesina added: “The buzz going round town is that the president is ill, but ‘ill’ will be a misnomer, it should not be the right word to use. The president is going for a 10-day rest and during that period, he will see specialists who will look at his ear because he had been treating that ear locally for sometime. Nigerian physicians have looked at it and now, they have said you are going to UK. Now that you will be there, let specialists look at the ear. They have treated it locally. So, it is not a question of whether the president is ill. If he is ill, it presupposes that there are certain things that he cannot do.”
Later in a telephone chat with our correspondent yesterday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said there was no vacuum as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would act as president during Buhari’s vacation.
