The
acting president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, is currently meeting with
the service chiefs and all the governors of the South-south states.
The meeting is being held at the Vice President's Wing of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
President Muhammadu Buhari is on a 10-day vacation in London where he is expected to treat his persistent ear infection.
It was gathered that the meeting was convened to find a lasting solution to the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta region.
The meeting is being attended by the governors of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Ondo, Abia, Edo and Delta States as well as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Usani Uguru.
The Niger Delta Avengers and other militant groups had continued blowing up oil installations in the restive region.
