Some unknown
hoodlums had over the weekend, stolen a pot of stew worth N6, 000 which
was prepared by a food vendor in Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government
Area, Delta State.
The thieves reportedly stormed the
residence of the vendor identified only as Mrs. Agnes when she went in
to take her bath in readiness for day’s business.
According to Vanguard, the thieves abandoned the pot of rice which was also on fire close to the pot of stew.
Recall that there has been a scarcity of
tomatoes in recent times which according to the federal government was
as a result of a pest known as Tomato Ebola.
A source privy to the matter admitted
that times are hard, adding that there has been an increase in petty
robbery around in the area.
The source said: “They left the rice
because it was still boiling. Times are hard and incidents of petty
robbery are on the rise in our community. Just last month, four small
power generating sets, popularly known as I-pass-my-neighbour, were
stolen in different places.
“In one of the incidents, family members
and friends were watching the UEFA Champion’s League final between the
Madrid clubs, when power supply from the generating set was suddenly
cut.
“They discovered too late that the
generator had been moved. Most people now put their generators inside,
even when it is working. This is dangerous to the health of the people.”
