In what might be perceives as an act of abomination, Oba Abiodun Oyewunmi in Ondo state has been kidnapped by unknown men.

Vanguard reports that the monarch who is the Laragunsin of Iyasan was abducted on Tuesday, July 6 by 10 men who stormed his palace and whisked him away.

The abductors reportedly entered the town through Owena River and were heavily armed.

It took them 30 minutes to carry out the operation unhindered by the palace guards who were defenseless in the face of superior weaponry. Sanmi Elumaro who is the chairman of the council confirmed the incident.

He also noted that the abductors were heavily armed but denied that the incident had to do with the chieftaincy tussle coupled with the legal tussle that trailed the installation of the Oba. According to him “the Oba was properly installed by the kingmakers.”

Elumaro said both the Navy and Police had begun investigation to bring the monarch back safely.

Femi Joseph who is the spokesperson of the state police confirmed the abduction. He assured that the king will be brought back safely as police detectives were already on the trail of the criminals.

The spate of abduction for the purpose of ransom is fast becoming a common crime in the country.

Gunmen suspected to be militants killed a contractor with the United Cement Company of Nigeria, (UNICEM) and kidnapped seven others among whom were three Australians, two from New Zealand and two Nigerians.

It was reported that the victims who were attacked on Wednesday, June 22 worked for MacMahon which is an expatriate firm working for UNICEM, a subsidiary of Larfarge Plc.
