By

Jimi Agbaje, a former governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 elections in Lagos State, is on the verge of being arrested by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Elombah.com, reports that barring any last minute change of plans, the EFCC has concluded arrangements to arrest Agbaje.
According to sources within the PDP, Agbaje, who is also contesting for the position of national chairman of the PDP in the forthcoming national convention in Port Harcourt, is favoured for the position by governors elected on the party’s platform, the report says.
EFCC is said to be plotting to arrest him at the venue of the convention on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 over allegations that he received the sum of $12m from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
The report asserted that the anti-graft agency has been investigating Mr. Agbaje over “huge campaign sums” he received from the former NSA.
Agbaje, a pharmacist and former Treasurer of the Yoruba sociocultural group, Afenifere was a former member of the Alliance for Democracy, AD.
He later defected to the Democratic Peoples Alliance, DPA, where he contested the 2007 governorship election in Lagos.
In 2014 he joined the PDP on whose platform he contested the 2015 gubernatorial elections, which he also lost to Akinwumi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
