Ken Saro-Wiwa, Jnr, son of the late Ogoni leader icon, Ken Saro-Wiwa has died.
According to family sources, the
award-winning journalist suffered a stroke on Saturday. He went into a
coma soon after and was placed on life support.
He passed away in a London hospital in the evening of Tuesday, October 18, 2016.
A source said Saro-Wiwa, Jnr, battled with a lung related disease for sometime.
Ledum Mitee, a former president of the
Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, the organisation his
iconic father founded, confirmed Saro-Wiwa, Jnr’s death saying he was
still in shock after receiving a phone call about the development.
Saro-Wiwa, Jnr, was a journalist and
former adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan. He served as an adviser
to President Olusegun Obasanjo, and President Musa Yar’Adua.
He obtained his early education
at Stancliffe Hall School and Tonbridge School in England. He later went
to School of Slavonic and East European Studies, which is now part of
the University College in London.
His last assignment before joining the Nigerian government in 2006 was as the editor of the new media lab of UK’s The Guardian where he was responsible for developing content for the newspaper’s online edition.
He died 6 weeks shy of his 48th birthday.
