By

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nominations of Justices Dauda Bage and Paul Adamu for the appointment as justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The confirmations occurred during Thursday, November 17, 2016  plenary on the floor of the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.
The Senate also confirmed five of the nominees into the Governing Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
‎The confirmation of Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, Clement Baiye, Chief Okoi Obia and Senator Ifeanyi Ararume to governing board of the NCC followed the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Communication chaired by Senator Gilbert Nnaji, representing Enugu East. ‎
‎The committee also resolved not to recommend the remaining two nominees – Mr. Aliyu Saidu Abubakar and Pastor Yissa Ezekiel Benjamin for confirmation by the Senate, having lacked the professional and educational disciplines provided in the Nigerian Communication Commission Act, 2003 which stipulated the qualification of the Commission’s board members.
Senate President Bukola Saraki, reminded the new board members that Technology and Communication is now part of Nigeria GDP and charged them to move the sector forward.‎
‎In a related development, Senate has also confirmed the nomination of six others -‎ ‎Prof. Okechkwu Obinna, May Agbamuche-Mbu, Ahmed Tijani, Mohammed Kudu, Adekunle Ladipo and Abubakar Ahmed as Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
