Donald Trump put Pennsylvania in the Republican’s column Tuesday, winning the state’s 20 electoral votes despite a 11th-hour push by Hillary Clinton to hold onto a state that’s gone Democrat every presidential election since 1988.

The Associated Press called Pennsylvania for Mr. Trump shortly after 1:35 a.m., as he cut the margins in Democratic bastions of Philadelphia and its swing-voter suburbs, while driving up GOP turnout across the rest of the Keystone State.
Mr. Trump early in the race identified Pennsylvania as the linchpin of a electoral strategy to cut a path through the Rust Belt to the White House, which was widely dismissed as an improbable uphill battle for the political newcomer.
The billionaire businessman ultimately defied the naysayers and opinion polls that showed him consistently trailing in the state.
