The
whereabouts of Sally Mbanefo has continued to generate diverse comments
in different quarters. Probably, the former Director General did not
see her removal coming. Little wonder that she decided to withdraw into
her cocoon to nurse her pain. Yet, her fans say she is unruffled.
Her tenure, to put it mildly, was enmeshed in controversies. But resilience was her staying power.
Spyglass
gathered that when she was appointed Director General, NTDC, in 2013 by
President Goodluck Jonathan, she literally hit the ground running
because she considered it a call to service. She stated in her vision,
among other things, to focus on the development of local content of the
tourism industry.
This was not too difficult for her to accomplish, as
she only needed to leverage on her experience from the private sector.
However,
it is dangerous to take appearance for reality. Indeed, it is
preposterous to take her simple and quiet mien for weakness or timidity.
She is one woman blessed with strength.
Over
the years, the graduate of Law from the University of Lagos has stuck
to her abiding philosophy: hard work plus prayers equals success. With
that she has moved up the ladder of life to the envy of her critics.
Before
her last appointment as DG, NTDC, she had excelled in other sectors,
such as manufacturing, banking and oil and gas, among others.
