No Pre-Conditions in PDP Peace Plan, Says Jonathan

By

Former President Goodluck Jonathan
Former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said that the reconciliation efforts he was spearheading in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not place preconditions on either of the feuding parties.

This is coming against the background of reports that the embattled National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff and the National Caretaker Com- mittee led by Ahmed Makarfi had been asked to resign as part of conditions for the new peace effort.
Jonathan said no such condition was attached to the peace moves and that he was determined to continue on the path of inclusive dialogue, with a view to ensuring that genuine peace returns to the PDP.
A statement issued on his behalf by his Media Adviser,
Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, also said that Jonathan urged party members to ignore rumours and false information being passed off as the outcome of the continuing dialogue.
Eze said that the former President would address the public on the positive outcome
of the consultations, at the ap- propriate time.
The statement reads: “There is no doubt that the statesmanship evident in the former President’s reconciliation efforts precludes his laying preconditions, as is deliberately being misrepresented by a section of the media.
“We hereby reiterate that the former President is determined to continue on this path of inclusive dialogue, by working with the Governors, the Board of Trustees (BOT), members of the National Assembly and other key stakeholders, until the internal dispute is finally resolved.”
