300 Nigerian graduates quit Kano Internal Revenue Service job over N35,000 salary

Barely three months after their engagement as revenue officials with the Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), not less than 300 out of the 765 graduates recently engaged to work in the service, have dumped the job.
Reason is because of the paltry salary of N35 per month, which the graduates described as not only poor but contrary to what was earlier promised.
According to one of the newly engaged graduates that dumped the employment, the service has failed to fulfill some of the promises made to them in regards to the service’s salary scale, stressing that most of them where cajoled to leave their jobs and accept the tax generation work only to be paid N35, 000.

“We were told that they will offer us a better salary package than what we were earning at our former working places. However, after we have concluded all bureaucratic engagements, we ended up being paid N35, 000 as graduates.
This is why about 300 of us have quit, because with the present economic huddles; it is unwise for one to deceive oneself that he or she can leave on that stipends,” lamented the former tax collector.

Contacted for reaction to the development, the KIRS Public Relations Officer, explained that the Service Executive Chairman, Sani Abubakar Dambo is out of the state for Lesser Hajj, pointing out that no one can make comments on his behalf.
Meanwhile, another source at the KIRS, also confirmed that a substantial number of those recently engaged have dumped the job, without notification.
