The collapsed road
The Governor Gabriel Emmanuel Udom-led Akwa Ibom State Government
has officially announced the immediate shutdown of Hospital Road, at
Midim, in Abak Local Government Area of the state for urgent
intervention and rehabilitation.
The state's Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen gave the
order when he paid an unscheduled visit to inspect the road which has
collapsed to the pressures of a devastating gully erosion by the Obot
Street intersection.
The Works Commissioner who conveyed the concern of Governor Udom
Emmanuel to the residents of Abak in general and Midim village in
particular, expressed worry that, the extent of damage is an existential
threat to the inhabitants of the area and their property.
He blamed the collapse on poor drainage system, harping that, this
is reason Governor Udom Emmanuel has directed that no road constructed
under his watch will be done without requisite drainage to receive water
and the proper channeling to an outfall which will pose no danger to
the community or damage to the road.
Commissioner Inyangeyen disclosed that, Hensek Nigeria Limited will
be mobilized to site at once to commence emergency remedy work on the
road and quickly get it back to use. He accordingly advised the road
users to take alternative routes until the repair was done.
