There is no law that says FEC meeting must hold every week- Femi Adesina says

 

Senior Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, had an interview with Channels TV this evening where he was asked why the Federal Executive Council meeting did not hold. Recall that Adesina had earlier in the day released a statement announcing that the FEC meeting had been put off and that instead of the meeting which usually took place every Wednesday, President Buhari would receive the report of the investigation committee on suspended SGF Babachir Lawal and NIA boss, Ayo Oke.
During the interview, Adesina refuted claims that President Buhari's health challenge might have been the reason for the cancellation of today's FEC meeting. He went on to say that there is no law in the constitution that mandates the Federal government to have FEC meeting weekly. According to Adesina, during a past administration, FEC meetings held once in two weeks.
“There is no law that says the Federal Executive Council meeting should hold every week. There is no law that says it must be weekly. Under a past administration, it used to hold once every two weeks. So, there is no law that says it should hold every Wednesday. It depends on what you have on the agenda to discuss. The President is the Chairman of that meeting. So, he has the discretion to hold or not to hold the meeting. The fact that FEC does not hold in one week does not mean anything significant because the President has the discretion to hold or not to hold FEC meetings" he said
