Kwankwaso’s 2019 presidential ambition cause of rift with Ganduje – Senator Jibrin

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, Senator Jibrin Barau, has claimed that the rift between Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and former Governor of the state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is because of the latter’s presidential ambition.
Jibrin, in an interview with Daily Trust, also stated that another reason stems from an incident that happened when Ganduje’s mother died.

“There are two issues that have led us into the ugly scenario we found ourselves in Kano.
“One, it started when the mother of the incumbent governor died, his predecessor paid a condolence visit. An ugly scene against the governor occurred. It was investigated and it was discovered that the whole thing occurred due to the actions or inactions of the then chairman of our party in Kano.
“The then chairman Umar Doguwa was found wanting. This was in addition to other previous offences against Doguwa. I think a vote of no confidence was passed on him and he was removed from the position. A new chairman emerged but the former governor rejected the change in leadership and stood his ground. Up till now, the issue has not been addressed and this is the one of the major causes of the feud.
“The second issue is the fact that Ganduje is an ardent supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari and he has made it very clear that he will always support and stand by the President including in 2019.

“He has made this clear to all that matters. And from what you can see, Kwankwaso’s actions including his trips to states have shown that he will contest for presidency in 2019. Observers see this as another area of disagreement between Kwankwaso and Ganduje.
“If there is any effort to resolve these issues, there will be peace. But so long as there is objection to what the party has done, by the Kwankwaso’s camp, the problem will continue,” Jibrin said.
