We’re capable of protecting ourselves, Ohaneze tells Miyetti Allah

Youth wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo has rejected a proposal by the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), demanding its members be accommodated in security surveillance of the south-east.
National leader of the organisation, Amb. Dr. Arthur Uchenna Obiorah stated this in Awka, on Friday, asking South East governors to disregard any plan to include herders in their sensitive local vigilance security architecture.
The group argued that the apex Igbo socio cultural organization had what it took to secure their territory, with the backings and support of the state governors in the South East.
He said, “We distance ourselves with the proposition advanced by the national chairman of MACBAN Alhaji Mohammadu Kirowa represented by its national secretary Alhaji Baba Ngelzarma at the security stakeholders organized by the South East Chambers of Commerce, Mine and Agriculture (SECCIMA) in collaboration with South East Governors Forum held in Enugu.”
Obiorah said the group, during an emergency meeting, resolved that Ndigbo had numerical strength and competence to secure their environment without soliciting assistance from a third party.
His words, “We are youths and have able body men and women to carry out the security task of our states, we do not need the assistance of Fulani herdsmen or anyone to protect us here in Igbo land”.

“Ndigbo are known to be strong and industrious in all we do and I don’t see the need for our leaders to entertain the Fulani requests, proposing to protect us in our ancestral land, we in Ohaneze Ndigbo youths say no and it will not happen here in Igbo land.
“We also resolved in our meeting that we are looking forward to having a roundtable talks with them so that our region will remain peaceful.”
The youths organization also distanced itself from alleged terrorist attacks in two South East states issued by foreign and commonwealth office of the UK, warning its citizens in Nigeria against visiting some states in the country over possible terror attacks.
The group described the report as malicious and attempt to scare investors from patronising the Eastern States, insisting that the zone remained the most peaceful territory.
“The report is not only targeted at denying us of our hospitality but a ploy to shift investments and our participation in the proposed Free Trade Zone slated to commence at the Akanu Ibiam International airport,” the group added.
