Meghan Markle releases behind-the-scenes footage of her time as guest editor of British Vogue

Meghan Markle has released unseen footage that shows the behind-the-scenes on the time she worked as guest editor of British Vogue.

The Duchess of Sussex became the first guest editor in history of British Vogue's September edition last year, bringing together her 15 most inspirational women for the front cover.  The edition went on to be the fastest-ever selling issue of British Vogue. It sold out in 10 days, becoming its biggest seller of the past decade.

The Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes video. In the video, Meghan got together with editor-in-chief Edward Enninful to talk about how the project came to be and celebrate its success with glittery party hats.

Sitting on a grey sofa in the magazine’s London headquarters last August, the pair reminisced about how the project began with a simple text message the previous January.

Meghan tells the editor: "I wanted to see if you would help me with Smart Works [the Duchess’s charitable clothing collection], right? And so, there we were, having tea."

Enninful responds: "I remember walking into Kensington Palace and I was so excited. And I was like 'Lovely to meet you, Duchess.' And you were like 'Call me Meghan.' "

The pair burst out laughing at the memory of their meeting before Meghan goes on to reveal that she decided to "push it a little bit more" and see if Edward would let her guest edit.

He praises her, saying: "In the history of Vogue, you’re the first. You have an editor’s eye. I mean, I’ve never seen anything like it. You were so thorough, from beginning to end."

Meghan then claims that she "left the fashion stuff to you professionals", only asking for a Commonwealth theme and sustainability.

She adds: "Anyone, no matter who they are picking up this issue, should be able to see themselves in it, and that’s what I feel really proud that we’ve accomplished."

The pair are then filmed calling some of the famous women who were involved with the issue, including British fashion model Adwoa Aboah, South Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech and American actress Laverne Cox.
