Traditional rulers in the Southeast yesterday visited Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to empathise with him on the recent attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Ukpabi Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.

They urged the Federal Government to disarm the herdsmen.
Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano, in company of a delegation of the Traditional Rulers’ Council of his state, led members of the State Executive Council (Exco) on the visit.
The governor said his administration and the people of Anambra State were behind their Enugu State counterpart in their time of grief.
Both groups of visitors hailed Ugwuanyi for the mature leadership he exhibited during the attack.
One of the leaders of the Southeast monarchs and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, told both governors that the traditional rulers were convinced that the people of region should gird their loins and disallow a repeat of such attack.
The Chairman of Southeast Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty Eze Dr. Eberechi N. Dick, urged the government to take the call for the disarmament serious.
The monarch noted that the herdsmen posed a danger to the region and the nation’s sovereignty.
They said Ugwuanyi effectively handled the Ukpabi Nimbo attack.
Ugwuanyi said the visit was “really very comforting and reassuring and it goes to confirm our sense of brotherhood and the common grief we share as a people”.
